Dance Residency Artist Showing & Forum

Dance Aotearoa New Zealand (DANZ) and The Arts Centre of Christchurch, presents the DANZ Dance Residency.

The DANZ Dance Residency provides a local dance practitioner with the opportunity to expand and explore their choreographic expression in a supported environment.

This is the first time the residency has been delivered in Ōtautahi.

The selected artist in residence will present an informal showing and forum based on the process of the two week residency. This residency is proudly supported by DANZ, The Arts Centre of Christchurch, Creative New Zealand, and Movement Art Practice (MAP).

Artist in Residence:
Olivia O'Brien

Olivia auditioned and was accepted into the Hagley Dance Company in 2016 and was the Sheryl Robinson Scholarship recipient for her year.

From Hagley, Olivia was accepted into Unitec's Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts (Contemporary Dance) degree where she has spent 3 years developing her contemporary dance and choreographic techniques under the best New Zealand has to offer.

Her work ‘Appe-Tight’ was a finalist and won Most Innovative Choreography in Short and Sweet 2019. Olivia has found a keen interest in making work that is slightly dirty, incorporates humour and displays high intensity, virtuosic movement.
